Robert Monteleone formed Symposium Jazz Band in 1988. Symposium Jazz is a diverse collection of musicians. The music is immediately accessible, with melodic phrasing and rhythmic patterns that have boasted an expansive range of listener’s .Underlying the song oriented repertoire is a collective appreciation for improvisational jazz, which leads the audience down intriguing avenues of inventive musical adventure.
In Symposium the listener might discover the ideal match of popular instrumental music with the many modes of jazz - - hearing a soft, lyrical horn passage one moment and a dynamic, poly-rhythmic ensemble passage the next. There is something for everyone in the music of Symposium Jazz – a dramatic range from tragic to funny, a landscape of sounds and harmonic inventiveness from pastoral to symphonic, a mix of the earthy and ethereal, the primitive and the high-tech. Symposium is the nexus of musically diverse individuals where horns, keyboards, bass, drums and percussion meld to become an event both aural and visual.
Robert envisioned a group of musicians with a goal: “to create music of value in that it touches people and reminds them that we are all connected.” This commitment to an ideal is the key, the special element that fuels the creative energy of Robert and Symposium.
The diversity of the band has encouraged a similarly diverse audience. Symposium attracts young and old, fellow musicians, rockers and grandfathers, jazz and salsa fans, the casual listener and musical intelligentsia. The band has opened shows for: Herbie Hancock, Tony Williams, Wayne Shorter, Richard Elliot, Brian Bromberg, Tony Guerrero, The Crusaders and toured For booking information Kenneth Hill at pacificintlent@aol.com ........or Robert at composer.robert@gmail.com
